GENERAL INFORMATION

Babs Strickland - has been working with children and young people for over 35 years.

Qualifications:

  • Council for Awards in Children's Care and Education (CACHE) Level 3 Certificate in work with children.
  • Youth Worker and worked with various Youth Clubs in Lancashire and London.

On moving to Bedfordshire she became a voluntary worker at the Child Development Centre in Kempston and continued as a Youth Worker.

In 1986 she was solely responsible for establishing Bedford Borough Council’s first Rural Summer Playscheme. Its success led to it being adopted as a model for other rural Playschemes and 23 years later it still continues to thrive.

In 1993 she was appointed Playscheme Services Manager at Bedfordshire & Hertfordshire Ambulance & Paramedic Service (BHAPS) Playscheme. Whilst there she designed and developed an advanced approach to Quality Childcare and expanded the provision to open a second venue.

In 1997 she left to set up SPICE Holiday Club where:-

Children Come First - they devise the Play Programme and are encouraged to be inventive and creative

Staff Are Enthusiastic And Caring - they Listen and Respond to the children’s needs

The Atmosphere is Positive, Supportive and Fun - the accent is on Play, Team Work & Traditional Social Skills

SPICE Holiday Club has an Excellent Reputation Throughout The County
